What is Speakeasy?
Positive communication at home helps all aspects of children and young people’s wellbeing and wellbeing includes healthy, happy relationships with themselves, other people and the world around them.
Speakeasy empowers parents, carers and professionals to feel knowledgable, confident and ready to have conversations with children and young people about growing up, relationships and sexual health in an age-appropriate way.
Speakeasy is a community learning programme that supports parents, carers and those who support children and young people to talk confidently with them about growing up. It covers topics like body changes, safety, relationships, and sexual health, and offers information, resources, and practical tips to help children grow up safe and healthy.
Having open, honest conversations
Research shows that young people want to talk to adults who feel comfortable and confident talking about these issues, and that having open, honest conversations helps children to avoid risks and make better choices.
Research carried out by theChat.scot highlighted that adults also want support and information to feel confident to speak to children and young people about these issues.
‘The Chat’ is a newly developed resource has been developed to help parents, carers and those working with children and young people give age appropriate responses to questions they might ask about growing up, relationships and sexual health.
Speakeasy sessions are designed to support the Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood
(RSHP) education curriculum for children and young people.

How is Speakeasy delivered?
Trained facilitators from the Argyll and Bute Health Improvement Team in partnership with education Family Liaison Officers deliver Speakeasy in Argyll and Bute through online webinars as well as face to face sessions in small groups. They are short, free and informal.
Who are Speakeasy sessions for?
Speakeasy sessions are offered to parents, carers or professionals working with, or supporting children and young people in Argyll and Bute.
